The Cambodian NGO CEDAC and the Danish consulting company Nordeco will jointly form a business, called CAFACA. The mission of this is to connect Cambodian farmers who practice low-external-input sustainable agriculture to global carbon markets, climate change funds and practitioners of Corporate Social Responsibility.
Nordic Climate Facility supports the business start-up for two years, but the partners want it to operate as a business right from the beginning.
The business will provide income to Cambodian farmers, will promote activities that mitigate climate change and help farming communities increase productivity and adapt to climate change. It will also operate in ways that ensure financial viability.
A key feature is credible and inspiring reporting to buyers (companies, foundations and public institutions overseas) of the carbon. Reporting will be based on a homepage with geo-referenced pictures and written records from villages. The information will be collected using Smartphones and uploaded to the homepage. CAFACA will provide initial training in design and use of the software for this.
