A future mechanism on REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) provides an opportunity for Cambodia to be rewarded for its efforts to protect and sustainably use its forests.
The REDD+ Roadmap describes how the country will become “REDD+ ready” and includes a draft Consultation and Participation Plan. This plan outlines how stakeholders will engage in the Cambodian national REDD+ process, in particular through the creation of a “REDD+ Consultation Group”. The Consultation Group will serve as a forum to represent the views of different stakeholder groups and support the Cambodia REDD+ Taskforce in terms of providing recommendations and/or suggestions.
The REDD+ Consultation Group will be composed of 18 representatives, as follows:
- 2 member from national NGOs,
- 2 member from international NGOs,
- 2 members from civil society,
- 2 members from Indigenous Peoples groups,
- 2 members from private sector,
- 2 members from academic institutions,
- 6 members representing Community Forestry (CF) (2 representatives), Community Fishery (CFi) (2 representatives) and Community Protected Area (CPA) (2 representatives) networks.
Duration of service: Consultation Group members will serve a term of 3 years followed by a review process which might result in a further appointment. New Consultation Group members will be identified based on selection by their respective constituencies.
